A: The home employs an Activities Organiser, who coordinates the provision and delivery of activities such as games, arts & crafts, baking, bingo, sing-songs, etc. We also have weekly Zumba fitness and chair exercises.. Residents always have the choice of whether or not to participate.

A: A variety of singers visit at least monthly.

A: There are monthly outings to “Singing for the Brain” and to Leigh Bowling Club. Throughout the year there are other outings such as canal boat trips on the “Rose of Parbold”, Blackpool Illuminations and Carol Services at Christmas etc. We are always open to suggestions for where to go on our days out!

A: Residents are encouraged to treat Blackrod House as their own home therefore visitors are welcome at any time.

A: Children are always welcome visitors.

A: There is always sufficient staff on duty to meet the needs of the residents, normally six during the day and three at night. We participate in an apprenticeship scheme; the apprentices are extra to the usual staff numbers.

A: Breakfast is from 8.00 until the last person is up! Lunch is at 12.00 and tea is at 5.00. Supper is at 8.00. These times are flexible and snacks are provided throughout the day upon request.

A: We can cater for any specialised diet.

A: Certainly, providing that it is in good repair, does not breach any Health and Safety or Fire regulations, and there is space for it.

A: Our handyman will be happy to put your pictures up where you want them.

A: Subject to the discretion of the owners/management.

A: Yes, we have a fully-equipped salon with fortnightly visits from our own hairdresser who charges very reasonable prices. If you prefer your own hairdresser to visit they are welcome to make use of the facilities.

A: You have to provide your own toiletries, however we can arrange to purchase them on your behalf from your personal allowance.

A: This is at the discretion of your G.P., however Blackrod Health Centre is only a stone’s throw away.

A: Yes, you can use our phone to call any UK landline number.

A: No problem!

A: No, we do all your laundry on the premises. It will usually be returned to you clean and ironed within 24 hours. All clothing must be labelled and please bear in mind that everything goes in the washing machine and tumble dryer.

A: We have all necessary manual handling equipment and all the staff are fully trained in moving and handling.

A: Nursing care is not provided in the home, however the services of the District Nurses are utilised as appropriate.
